VR Immersion Training

As I read the rules, is it required that agents who wish to go into the Assault or Operations branches will need to take this edge?

I just looked at the PG it looks like you gain a specific variant depending of the branch. Combat immersion for assault and social for Operations.

The actual vr immersion states
The agent has been upgraded with a neurological data link and may take any one edge he
normally qualifies for. This edge may be reassigned at the beginning of each new mission

Its hard to tell if the "Special" requirement is getting the GMs permision or another unstated circumstance

Nope. VR Immersion Training is an edge that anyone can get that meets the requirements.

The specific branch edges that are obtained are available to anyone in the particular branches as long as they continue serving in that branch.

Got it. So the Occult branch edges are the same with the exception that only one can be taken at a time as it's tied to some relic or foci and the agent must return it upon leaving the branch?

That is the right of it. Additionally, people in the Occult branch can swap out their relic or foci between missions.

Interesting. So Jared Blood levels, transfers to Assault from Occult, and takes Wraith but loses Blessed? Later he levels again and transfers back to Occult whereupon he gets Blessed back, adds Dreamer, but loses Wraith? I didn't get that from the text at all.

Matchstick,

A bit pressed for time at the moment, but I'll clarify a bit. The specific branch benefit you receive from being in a particular branch is only while in that branch. Any specific edges you gain are kept, so if you become a Wraith and then switch to another branch, you still are a Wraith, you're just expanding your skill base. Apologies for any confusion.

Ah, well explained! So if we look at Jared Blood again we get:

Jared Blood is in the Occult Branch so he gets the benefit "request relic or foci" and also chooses the Edge Blessed. He then levels and changes to the Assault branch and chooses the Wraith Edge. Now he has Blessed and Wraith for Edges. But he loses the benefit "request relic or foci" because he's not in Occult any more. He gains the benefit "combat immersion training" because he's now in Assault.

The key for my little mind was making the distinction between an Edge and a benefit.

I like that design Sean. Well done!
