Just noticed this - and thought I'd chime in about Shaintar not being "gritty" enough...
One campaign I ran was very dark, and gritty (random kidnappings of small children, families murdered for interfering, slavery)...and while it didn't last too long (damn work and real life interference), everyone enjoyed it immensely. I should see if I can find the logs of that campaign and repost them...even now two years since that campaign ran, I have some people who still talk about it.
Heck even the few brief sessions I ran for SPF a while back online were definitely not a "unicorns and rainbows" fantasy style. Everything you need to tell any
kind of fantasy story exists within the framework of the original Shaintar...and I'm sure the new version will live up to the glories of its forefathers
