The man looks disgusted a the gore pile and turns around to vomit.

"I didn't....didn't know...didn't know what it was..." He wipes his mouth with the back of his sleeve and looks at you with watery eyes. "I saw this little guy running away" He points to a much older part of the docks."He was carrying something that looked like a plate that was burning."

The man gapes at you in slack-jawed astonishment.

"What? Are you crazy or something? How am I supposed to give you a description of someone at a time like this?" The man grabs you by the shirt with both hands.

"Listen goofball", you can smell the liquor on his breath, "all I saw was this truck burning up and some squatty guy running off carrying a PLATE OF FIRE!" He's screaming at you now.

"I CAME OVER AND SAW THIS POOR BASTARD" he motions with his head indicating the smoking pile of gore near the truck "AND NOW YOU ASKING ME QUESTIONS LIKE YOU'RE DICK TRACY OR SOMETHING". Spittle from his vehemence splatters your face. He lets go of you with a shove.

"Instead of wasting time asking questions, you outta grab a bucket and help put this fire out." he runs off to help with the buckets. The siren in the distance is getting louder, closer.

[ooc: I took a few liberties with the Dick Tracy reference since it didn't appear until the 1930's GM fiat and all that  ]

[George] George considers the man's words. Yes, I guess I could be called crazy. Why am I so rational at this time. I'm standing next to a puddle with faces and hands reaching out of it, my best friend saw his associate consumed in fire called down by a man shouting strange words, and a passerby just saw a man run away with a burning plate. George begins to tuck his notebook away, but, as an afterthought, writes down the name "Dick Tracy" and the words "Plate of Fire", before continuing. He starts to move towards the fire brigade, carrying buckets to put out the fire, but turns, and starts to walk down the street in the direction the man pointed the plate bearer had gone.

What am I doing? he thinks to himself. None of this is really happening. It can't be happening. It's all a dream. George wanders down the street thinking of the whole situation...the fire, the unfortunate remains of the man, and the report of a man carrying a plate of fire. He searches his mind for anything he may know of this plate. [Knowledge: Occult]

Stopping at a street vendr, he picks up a paper, glances at the headlines, and hands the old man the coin to buy it. "P-p-pardon mmmmmme," he asks the newsboy. "D-d-did you h-h-happen to see a mmmman go b-b-by here c-c-carrying a b-burning lamp or sssssomething?"

[George] George ignore's the drunken man's comment about him being simple. This just keeps getting curiouser. A three-foot tall indian? "T-t-t-that s-s-sounds l-l-like him. Wh-wh-which way d-d-did he g-g-g...g-go?" Georges stuttering always seemed to get worse the stranger things were.
