How do you survive the zombie apocalypse?

Zombie Pace

Why should a bunch of zombies, all at different stages of decay, all move the same distance and at the same speed? For your consideration:

Zombie Pace: d8

Roll for each Zed before you move it. Could add a little extra uncertainty (and hopefully tension) to close encounters. (I prefer d8 to d6 to help model the 'zombie lunge' factor).

Thoughts?

I may go miniatures free if I run another Zombie game. The zombies will arrive in combat range when I want them to!

I'd argue that zombie paces would remain fairly consistent for each individual zombie, but they might vary among the zombies as a whole.

It's simple to create an special ability that slows a zombie down to a shambler with a Pace of 4 or even 2 for a crawler. For making them faster, just give them fleet-footed.

In other words, I'd just assign a particular pace to each zombie or group of zombies on the fly or stat them up if the particular zombie is a significant one.
