Alternate use for Runepunk

Postby OsiAdept » Wed Aug 10, 2011 8:36 pm

hey gys working on a dark sci-fantasy setting called Alpha Draconis and i am planning on it taking place on a Dyson Ring or "ringworld" and a i am thinking of using RP as a basis for it. My question is how well would aspects of RP translate and what should i consider.

Here is what i am going to have
6 Races mainly from the SWFC but i might adapt the Ratfolk and the Andari
2 AB Psionics and Engineers who use and advanced quantum computers and nano-tech to affect the environment
Nano-Tech Augmentation

Any advice would be appreciated

I don't see why not. Let us know how it all works out. Sounds like a fun game.

Hello!

Why would you want to do that?! Seriously, it sounds like a cool direction to take the setting and it shouldn't be a problem at all. RunePunk is posited as dark steampunk fantasy, but some folks put it firmly in science fantasy territory which is not true (especially if one accurately considers steampunk a subset of science fiction). You may find some value in the Guidebooks we've been releasing as they reveal more details of the setting. There is definitely highly advanced past technologies which pop up as well as ever-present vestiges of the past, such as with the star barges and current mystical tech, such as far doors.

The big question would be do you want to discard the RuneStorms? It depends on the focus/flavor of your setting. I might suggest including overwrought as a variant as well, because it reinforces the blending of magic and tech in the setting. Other than that, RunePunk can deftly handle any races you want to throw in there without any muss or fuss.

How do you intend to handle nano-tech augmentation? I'd definitely encourage it to be Edge-based as the dichotomy of wealth could cause serious imbalances in play.

Curious to hear more about the direction you're going to take things.

Regards,

Sean

Been looking over some of the RP stuff mainly it seems that i will mainly just have to reflavor some things this is good because i would rather re-flavor that create from scratch.

Nano-Tech Augments will be handled as Edges but some produce power effects so i will have to figure that part out.

Or i could simply modify costs for the implants

I am keeping the Far doors as that will facilitate easy travel around the ring

Andari will be a race of Alien Refugees
the Rat Folk will be roughly the same maybe even have them as the creators or caretakers of the Ring or as i will Call it the Dragon's Crown (A giant orbital ring circling the star Alpha Draconis)

Might Keep Rune Casting and rename it Geometrics (The ability to manipulate the lines of reality)

Thats what i got so far

This makes me think of the Alchemists in 'Full Metal Alchemist'. They use their circles (runes) to alter reality/matter. And with the right experience (edge) you can cast without runes. Although, since they don't seem to ever run out (it seems like they're just conduits, not sources of the energy), it might be better to not use a power point system.
