Achtung Cthulhu

Postby Straygeologist » Fri Jun 08, 2012 7:30 am

So this just came out for RoC, I picked it up this morning and was really REALLY impressed with the quality of work these guys put into it. I've always been a bit of a WWII/History buff, so this hits the spot.

Anyone else check this out?

Hi mate
I was tempted, but as I have developed my own 30's Pulp setting involving the Ahnenerbe, I have held off of this, as I suspect it contains a lot of stuff I already know ( also being a WW2 wargamer ) or that I have created for my own setting already. Also, the bargain bundle with Realms doesn't entice me, as I have both the dead tree and pdf copy of the rules.

However, if you fancy giving an elevator pitch on it, I would be interested to listen :)

cheers
Paul

I picked this up last week. I was tempted to get the Call of Cthulhu version, but after reading a couple of early reviews that suggested the feel was too action/pulpy for CoC, I held off to get the SW version.

Visually, the pdf is beautiful (especially the maps). It really is a pleasure to look at.

There's a lot of NPC, Player and Sidebar info in the document. The adventure itself is a bit on the sparse side. Its an interesting premise, but it doesn't go into too much detail on a scene-by-scene basis. What you get is more like a framework. If you're the kind of GM who likes to have the whole thing laid out on a plate, with lots of read-alouds, then this might not be for you. If you're happy to do bit of fleshing out and maybe add in or improvise the occasional bridging scene, then you'll likely find this better value.

I'll pick up the next installment because they are lovely to look at, and I want to support the publisher because I'm sure the line has potential.

I got it for Realms of Cthulhu and I found a few bugs still contained in there. The adventure itself is more action-ey, and features fighting Nazis mostly till the end game. Depending on how the finale plays out there will be more or less Mythos in the game.

The research they did on this one regarding WW2 stuff is very good. If everything goes to plan I will host one session of it in two weeks.

No Security by Hebanon Games are some horror scenarios set in the '30's.

I had the joy of reading it in advance, and it turned out really great. History, story and Mythos blend really great in this one, it should be fun to play for anyone interested in that.
