Mechagenesis: Robot Roll-Call Discussion

Wow, being previously a ground slugging soldier, the A10 was always a thing of beauty to me.

Nice to see one here by Shaki.

The only thing that I have a question about, and not saying it is wrong, but why Gargantuan? I would have put the A10 in the 'Huge' category, given though that I have never seen one up close and in person - just up in the air.

Again, not being critical because it looks awesome and will be one tough cookie, which A10s are. Just interested in other peoples design thoughts / philosophy. ;)

I will be back at my 'Blunderings' probably tomorrow once I get a MnM PbP character put together. 8-)

Best and thanks for sharing,

I think I can field this one. :D

A-10s are 53 feet long, according to Wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-10

The Huge size category is for creatures and vehicles from 16-32 feet in length/height. Gargantuan goes from 32-64 ft.

Usually, if a vehicle is within a few feet of a lower size category, it's ok to "fudge" things a bit to make a more playable character.

For example, the sample character Airlift morphs into an MBB/Kawasaki B-117 rescue helicopter. The BK-117s are 35 feet long -- technically Gargantuan by True20's size categories. However, since the suggested maximum size for a player-character is Huge, Airlift was made Huge.

At 53 ft., though, the A-10 is well into the Gargantuan size category and is a bit harder to justify making any smaller.

Admittedly when I looked at the pictures of the A-10 it kinda looks somewhat small compared to some other aircraft. It's fuselage is rather thin, and unlike most air superiority fighters it's mass isn't dominated by it's engines. But when I looked at the statistics for it I settled on keeping the gargantuan part of the jet fighter stats.

I too love the A-10, although, I've never seen them in person, flying or otherwise. Blitz is a possible NPC for a game I hope to be running in the future. I got the idea for him from couple sources: the A-10's in the Transformers movie and the Heavy from Team Fortress 2. I imagine Blitz speaking with a boisterous Russian accent similar to the Heavy. It's also where I got the idea for his weapons name 'Sasha,' I thought about 'Sheila' but well, I'll just say that one has been over used a bit in my local community.

Blitz is a big guy with a big gun and I think would strike an intimidating figure on the battlefield ;) .

Thanks, I had no idea they where that... well Gargantuan. :?

But as you mention he will strike quite the impression in a game, specially as an NPC, if the players are not familiar with the potential of the A10. 8-)

When I called them in on a target, they seemed smaller up there and moved so darn slow comparably. But boy they could sock it to whatever they chose to engage!

Thanks for both your thoughts,
