My Tremulus Experience

Aug 14th, 2012 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

I was honored to get to play Tremulus with Sean the other day.  I had read some of the rules, but that was about as much as I knew about the game.  Not only that, but I was playing solo and was wondering how this game would play out. I was wonderfully surprised with the ease of character creation, game play, and the pure creativity the game inspires.  I created a criminal character and decided I would play him like the 1980s character Ray Luca from one of my all time favorite shows, Crime Story.  The story was set in [...]

Missive #34: Ennie Nomination Baby! Check out our Reviews

Jul 15th, 2012 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Howdy.  As you might imagine, I’m thrilled at our Ennie Nomination for Agents of Oblivion.  Such accolades have been a long time in coming, and it’s very nice to know that others recognize and appreciate our work. Now if you have been wondering about Agents, but just haven’t been convinced to pull the trigger, I wanted to take this missive to share the reviews with you. http://roleplayerschronicle.com/?p=20428 This great website quickly reviews Agents, Setting Rues, Gear, Setting, Missions and overall stated, “Agents of Oblivion is an awesome book. With a number of GM tool-kits and new mechanic implementations, games using [...]

Missive 33: Oh Canada

Jun 28th, 2012 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Here’s the thing:  I never get to play.  Usually I’m the Director.  My friend Jerry and his 19 year old son Brandon have come up to visit and Jerry wanted to run Agents of Oblivion.  We’ve played a lot since last Sunday and I thought I’d share our missions with ya’ll. My character’s real name is Christopher Gaines.  He was a lanky, nerdy kid in high school, but when his innate power (Disguise) developed he really blossomed.  He was recruited into Oblivion by Agent Emerald, a raven-haired beauty with blazing green eyes.  Emerald was a pre-cog and was developing a [...]

Missive #32: Missing in Action

Jun 6th, 2012 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Howdy friends, fans, and critics.  Hope all the gaming is going blazingly fast, fun, and furious.  Just wanted to say “I’m sorry” about the tardiness of this post.  I’ve been very busy the past two weeks.  The school year finally came to an end which meant finals to grade and I have become a semi-bionic man. I am now (and forever) attached to an insulin pump.  I’ve had to go to training and have learned how to attach it to my big belly and all that other fun stuff.  So far so good, but that, a cold, end of school, [...]

Missive #31: A Dialogue of Socrates

May 22nd, 2012 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

The following has recently been unearthed and decoded by the Archiving Division and may be of interest to those who study our enemy. “My children.  My students.  You ask me where and whence did I gain the desire for knowledge.  It is not an easy answer.  For while the universe beckons, the powers ebb and flow in a constant dance.  Draw too much and you risk eternal fire.  Peek in the doors of knowledge and even that may burn you, but once you have tasted the power, it is impossible to ignore. My first teacher was the beautiful and wise [...]

Missive #30: Vehicular Modifications

Apr 30th, 2012 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Howdy Agents, A couple of weeks ago one of you posted on a Missive asking about qualities for vehicles.  If you grew up a James Bond fan like I did you always loved the cars with all the gadgets, guns, and gizmos.  So here is one way I would use vehicles in my home game. First remember that you can get a vehicle with one equipment pick and can add additional modifications with another equipment pick., such as Advanced Computer, Bulletproofing, Ejector Seat, Machine Gun, Nitro Burst, Oil spray/Spike dropper, and a Rocket Launcher.  But what a lot of agents [...]

Missive #29: Getting Old…Remembering Great Games and Gamers

Apr 23rd, 2012 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Howdy folks. Today I turned 44 years old.  I got a little nostalgic and started thinking of all the games I’ve been a part of over the years and all the wonderful friends I’ve made through gaming.  I started gaming in jr. high, deep in the woods of beautiful East Texas,  and of course we started with the DnD Basic set about 1978-79.  Many hours of great gaming were had on Grayhawk, and on our own world “Elder World.”  Some of the great friends I met and still love include: Robert West, Thomas Driver, Scott Austin, Wayne Walker, Lee Johnson, [...]

Missive #28: Outfitting Weapons

Apr 16th, 2012 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Howdy Agents and Directors, Another really cool aspect of Agents of Oblivion is the Weapons and Ammo Qualities.  If you haven’t investigated this or brought it into your game, you should. Here’s an example.  Agent Rojas always carries a Sig Sauer P220 .45 semi auto pistol (good choice and my personal favorite firearm!).  This would be a Semi-Auto.  He spends one equipment pick to gain the gun, another for a silencer.  This is a Semi-Auto, Medium Caliber (12/24/48); 2d6+1; ROF 1; Wt: 5; Shots 9 (though it real life it’s 8); AP 1; Double Tap. He decides to spend another [...]

Missive #27: Action Alert Adventure Starter

Apr 12th, 2012 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Howdy Directors and Agents.  Here is this week’s missive.  It’s meant to be an adventure starter.  Be creative and work out the details and NPCs.  Then share them on the forums.  I’d really like to see what ya’ll can do with this. Enjoy. ______________________________________________________________ …Action Alert…Action Alert…Action Alert…Action Alert…Action Alert CONFIDENTIAL  CONFIDENTIAL  CONFIDENTIAL   CONFIDENTIAL AGENCY EYES ONLY AGENCY EYES ONLY AGENCY EYES ONLY GENERAL INFORMATION FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TARGET:  SIR HENRY TRAVERS: PANDORAN AGENT WANTED FOR IMMEDIATE CAPTURE RECOVER SATELLITE ACCESS KEYS LOCATION: WESTERN EUROPE Travers was last known to be in Paris, France where he killed Oblivion Regional Director [...]

Missive #26: Another Way to Play!

Apr 4th, 2012 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Howdy folks.  Sorry I’m late on the Missive.  Really want to have these every Monday, but this is a very busy time in my alter ego’s life as a teacher.  So I was thinking that it would be cool to put the agents in a position to react to an enemies mission.  Usually when we generate missions we generate the bad guys whose role is to prevent whatever the Oblivion agents are called upon to do.  How about switching the roles a bit. I propose you generate a mission for an enemy agency, and allow your team of agents to [...]
