Director’s Dead Drops

Jan 25th, 2012 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Hello Director’s.  Whenever I find cool things to share with our fans I’m going to issue a Dead Drop! I wanted to share a FANtastic website dedicated to the spy genre by a fellow who goes by the code name Trigger.  It can be found at http://www.theagencystar.com  I I’ve joined and see lots of great potential, lots of great ideas for characters, npcs, organizations, plots you name it.  To make it even better, Trigger has been adding some non-official Agents of Oblivion Director’s aids for download, such as  Edge/Hindrance quick reference cards, a character sheet, and resource management cards. He [...]

Missive #16: Preparing to Play Roma Bellica

Jan 23rd, 2012 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Welcome back Directors. In Missive 15 we started a new campaign called Roma Bellico (Roman War).  We also created the Cell’s controller, an interesting veteran agent named Nora Valente, the owner/operator of a rare and unusual bookstore in a medieval district of Rome known as the Trastevere.  We know Nora is a tough, no nonsense agent who has seen her share of missions for Oblivion.  At some point she was exposed to something that left her anemic, but allows her to become ethereal once per day for a limited time.  As the controller of the cell, she will only [...]

After Action Report #1

Jan 21st, 2012 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Welcome Directors and Agents, Director Jerry Blakemore sent me this awesome After-Action Report on his Agents of Oblvion Game.  As a result he is now officially agent OZ3.  I want to hear from any of our fans.  I want to hear about your games, characters, NPCs, settings, extras, whatever you are willing to share.  Email me at MisterE@Oblivioncentral.com Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of Agents of Oblivion. It was love at first read. All I needed was players, as I loved playing with the mission generator. Well low and behold I found a group [...]

Missive #15: Generating a Campaign (Roma Bellico)

Jan 16th, 2012 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Howdy all, I thought it would be fun to develop an Oblivion Campaign using the awesome adventure generator and a little imagination. To begin with I decided to generate a place for the new cell and I generated Southern Europe.  Italy immediately came to mind.  This was followed by Rome.  Why?  I love Rome.  I love Roman history, and by setting the new cell in Rome I believe that I would have no dearth of ideas.  Now, where in Rome and why? After some thought I decided the cell would be a front for an eclectic book collector and seller.  [...]

Missive #14: Creating an Oblivion Cell

Jan 7th, 2012 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Oblivion is made up of many cells distributed worldwide, each operating independently of the others and reporting directly to their assigned regional Controller. This structure is a precautionary measure designed to prevent infiltration and limit the risks of exposure and loss of intelligence in the event any cell is corrupted. Each cell generally consists of a Senior Agent along with three to eight additional agents and support staff. Each cell is given a safe house as a base of operations that is their responsibility to manage and maintain. When agents have completed their training they may be assigned to [...]

Missive 13: Agencies

Jan 3rd, 2012 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Welcome Back Agents, This missive I wanted to share with you some of the fantastic tables produced by Stephen Miller who coauthored Gaslight: A Victorian Fantasy Setting from Battlefield Press.  He put together a massive table of all the possible random names for agencies using the table found in Agents of Oblivion.  Here are my favorite top 25, though in no particular order.  I’ve added what popped into my mind for each as well. 1.  Allied Counter-Terrorist Consortium (Western nations working together) 2.  Allied Defense Council (A secret pact of US, Israel, and United Kingdom) 3.  Allied Infiltration Bureau (A [...]

Missive #12: I’m Baaaccckkk…

Dec 30th, 2011 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Howdy, First I want to apologize for my late hiatus and lack of updates.  I had eye surgery and it’s taken about four weeks to recover enough to see the computer screen (darn cyber implants!) Anyway I hope everyone had a great holiday season and a great New Year.  There is a lot in the works for Agents of Oblivion in 2012, but I’d like to hear from the fans and Directors out there about what ya’ll would like to see us develop for Agents.  Right now we have a huge creature book, one sheets, Zero Sum Reports, adventures, and [...]

Missive #11: Considering Campaign Archetypes

Dec 4th, 2011 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

A Director’s job is never done.  You have an idea for an Oblivion campaign that is off-center and doesn’t follow the Company Line, and you are looking for ideas on how to make it happen.  Agents of Oblivion gives you lots of aid in the Campaign Archetypes, but you play Savage Worlds and want a quick, down-and-dirty conversion, especially during character creation.  Those whiny players want to create god-like characters with every power imaginable and cry foul when you tell them no.  They argue that “it’s in the book, I should be able to do it” without regard for your [...]

Mister E Missive #10: Creating an Agency

Nov 27th, 2011 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Welcome back agents.  I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving and is looking forward to a great Holiday Season.  I thought today, I’d create a new agency for us to play with. To begin with, I roll a d20 three times on the Agency Name Generator found in the Agents of Oblivion rulebook.  I rolled a 1 which results in “The”, then I rolled an 18—so the second word of the name is Security, and the last roll is a 6, so the final name of the new agency is The Security Directive.  Sound ominous. Now to find out about [...]

Mister E Missive #9: Give Thanks

Nov 21st, 2011 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Now for something completely different.  Happy Thanksgiving to all our American fans out there, those of you in other nations, I hope you also have many wonderful things to be thankful for in your lives. As for me, I’m thankful to Sean Preston for allowing me to assist in writing Agents of Oblivion.  I love the setting and the work we have done for it, and the work still to come promises to be awesome. I’m thankful to Shane Hensley and JD Wiker, who gave me enough advice to continue writing in the RPG industry. I’m thankful for the awesome [...]
