Second Monday

Today, I was greeted by technological grief. My computer and my phone were both invaded by gremlins this morning. After stomping them out, I got to work a bit later than I had planned. This made it feel like, a second Monday, and emphasized one of the drawbacks of working from a home office without the luxury of techmonkeys to come around and perform magic ju-ju dances over my system and make it all better. I then thought of how much I prefer no longer being in a cubicle and how I used to be one of the aforementioned techmonkeys in a former life. I got things going. Maybe I’m a curmudgeon, but I don’t need any technical challenges before, let’s say 10 a.m. Let me roll forward creatively and hit me with the tech issues a little later in the day (if at all).

I’m largely a creature of habit. I’ve got this routine down and after plowing through the wall of yesterday (much aided by a solid night’s sleep), I cranked out another Mythos Tale and made huge in-roads on this Cold War adventure I’m planning on running at Con on the Cob if I go (which is definitely the plan). That reminds me, thinking of doing something and getting it done are two different things. I need to make it happen.

Tonight, I’m running the Cold War thing and I’ll miss all the lavish details I’ve been writing into all the adventures you’ve been snagging, but I’ll have my pen at the ready to take notes if anything interesting comes to mind. I don’t usually do dry runs on con games. I’ve been running and writing these things long enough to know what works and what doesn’t and to adjust the session on the fly according to the interests of the group. It’s like being a stand-up comedian or traveling troubadour. Smile. Entertain. Leave them wanting for more. Tomorrow is another day and I think I’ll fly through the remaining Mythos Tales with alacrity. They are like hopeless souls circling the drain with every revolution moving them ever closer to the absolute end.

Until next time, I bid you, dear reader, adieu!
