Semantics and Shaintar: The Meaning of Free

Aug 2nd, 2012 | By | Category: The Razorwise Report

There have been some interesting developments revolving around our use of the word “free” in conjunction with the release of the Shaintar: Legends Arise Players Beta Guide, and I’m going to share the posts I put into the ongoing discussion Sean Patrick Fannon started on Facebook and G+, so you don’t have to leap over there if you don’t wish to do so. And I’m not wishing to link over to his page. Either you know him or you don’t. Right? According to Merriam-Webster online dictionary, the appropriate definition for free is as follows: free: made, done, or given voluntarily […]

Shaintar: Legends Arise (Beta Players Guide) Free for All!

Aug 1st, 2012 | By | Category: The Razorwise Report

Shaintar: Legends Arise (Beta Players Guide) Sean Patrick Fannon’s vision comes to life for Savage Worlds in this all new iteration brought to you by Reality Blurs. There are two core books planned for release. This generous excerpt from the first book is nearly two hundred pages in length and covers the complete character creation rules to be found in the final release of Legends Arise. All the races have been retooled and expanded out with more options than you can shake a stick at (along the lines of what you’ve seen in RunePunk). You’ll find the synergy of proven […]

The Quietude and the Maelstrom

Jul 31st, 2012 | By | Category: The Razorwise Report

For all you regular folks wondering where I’ve been, there has been multiple factors conspiring to prevent you from getting a regular dose of my razor wit. The first and foremost has been the heat. It’s been ridiculously hot, and while I’m able to block it out and work on, when the work stops, I find myself in a little inferno and I am utterly and completely drained. The only thing on my mind is the heat, and, believe me, I’m sparing you from adding to the commentary everyone’s been having about the weather. The second, and far more interesting reason, […]

Other (Savage) Things Afoot

Jun 15th, 2012 | By | Category: The Razorwise Report

I’ve spent the last few days talking about tremulus. Thanks for indulging me. I’m certain I’ll talk about it quite regularly as we move forward, but this post is for all you Savages out there! Ravaged Earth is next up in our queue. Our crew is putting the spit and polish (more the latter than the former) and we’re working out details for the art. Rest assured. It’s not too terribly far away now. And behind that is a lot of stuff for it. Eric has been busy, busy busy! There are guidebooks and adventures and all sorts of things for […]

Shiny Is As Shiny Does: Meditations on Shaintar

Apr 10th, 2012 | By | Category: The Razorwise Report

Today, I pretty much finished the first pass layout for Shaintar. (And I want you to learn to say it right. Say Shain like Shine as in SHINY! Don’t be one of THOSE people who get it wrong. Thank you!) The reason I say pretty much is, even though we split Shaintar into two volumes, when I wrapped the layout up today it wasn’t so much laid out as just stopped. There is STILL too much for this book. What does that mean? We have to review what stays in and what doesn’t. Some of it may be migrated to […]

Working Back Up to Things and Such

Apr 4th, 2012 | By | Category: The Razorwise Report

Yesterday, I wrapped up the main edits and layout for Ravaged Earth (pending art) and dove into Shaintar today. I had done some preliminary style work on it some months back and am happy with how it’s coming together. I also wrote a prefatory for the work. After I wrap up the rough layout, then I kick it back to the piranhas to chew it up and spit it back out. I piece together the bloody carcass, get together the art orders, and repeat the process until we’re all satisfied with the end result. There is a lot of stuff […]

Too Slow By Half

Aug 15th, 2011 | By | Category: The Razorwise Report

One of you sent an attachment of molasses to me over the weekend. As much as I like the stuff, it has oozed through the computer, through my fingers, and into the recesses of my brain where the magic happens. The magic, as a result, went slowly today. Little drops of real life trickled through the roof and served as a steady distraction throughout the day. I got some things accomplished, though not as much as I would’ve liked. The next Iron Dynasty Kesshi Tales didn’t get done yet. This means I’ll probably go ahead and work over[1. I try […]

Spy vs Spy: Love in the Age of Electronic Warfare

Jul 27th, 2011 | By | Category: The Razorwise Report

Got your attention. Didn’t I? Today, I wandered from Konoyo through Shaintar and wound up in Spyland by the end of the day. WOOOSH! is the sound you hear as I hold onto my scalp as everything showers over and through me. I’ve mentioned this fact on Twitter, but I’m going to say it again. The good thing about good editors is they catch lots of stuff. The bad thing about good editors is they catch lots of stuff. My ego is oblivious to their slings and arrows of outrageous correction. I make the changes I agree with (and, sometimes, […]

Shaintar Development News

Jul 12th, 2011 | By | Category: The Mad Lab

Sean Patrick Fannon, never one to keep secrets, sent in the drafts for his upcoming Shaintar projects, and has announced this to the world. Well, world, we ask for your patience. We have a number of other projects on our plate and we look forward to carefully going through this document and getting it into the proper shape for release next year. On the specifics of when, I cannot say until the team has an opportunity to review and assess the materials. I have read some snippets of the newest materials over the last few weeks and think it’s shaping […]

The End of 2010: We’ll See You on the Other Side!

Dec 31st, 2010 | By | Category: The Razorwise Report

I started to write a retrospective of what we’ve done this past year, but it didn’t feel natural. It seemed more like a marketing “event”. Not what I was looking for. Sure, we got some cool, new things out, such as Iron Dynasty: Way of the Ronin (which seemed to take forever but we did it and even sold out of the advance copies at GenCon), and we released a lot material this year, as it turns out, so it was our most productive year ever! Next year, we want to do better, and a lot of really cool things […]
