AFK + RL (Grist for Mills)

Most writers write. Or should be. Or are thinking about the writing and the words. Admittedly, I do.

Yet real life intervenes, as it is wont to do. It comes snarling and demanding for attention, be it vehicular entropies taking their toll or the necessity to get food stuffs to feed our frail forms.

Fear not, my friends, it doesn’t mean the creating has to end, just because you’re away from the keyboard (AFK) and must face real life (RL). Don’t live in a fantasy land–that’s definitely not what I’m advocating–but allow yourself to experience the experiences. Put yourself in others’ shoes, appreciate their points of view, and realize that maybe, just maybe, “there, but for the grace of God go I”.  Complaining and negativity are just distractions from the fullness of life. And life is grist for the mill. And grist is good.

Perhaps the ditzy customer service rep or curt waitress or phenomenal bartender has a place in your story, your creation, and can serve as your inspiration, be it in a prose project or as something else somewhere else.  Absorb. Experience. Reflect.

If you’re like me, you’re at your keyboard a lot. Engage in real life, really engage, when you’re not. Or what, really, is the point?

Until next time, I bid you, dear reader, adieu.
