The Savage State of the Blur
Today, we’re going to focus on a topic near and dear to my heart, and that’s Savage Worlds. We’ve been developing for it for a long time, so we really know the nuts and bolts of the system. We have made good friends in the community, and you guys trust us to bring solid stuff to your game table with such works as diverse as the steampunk fantasy that is RunePunk all the way to our Enny-nomimated Agents of Oblivion. Oh yeah, we brought the Mythos into the mix with Realms of Cthulhu and created the oriental epic that is Iron Dynasty. And we even took a turn at pulp with a twist with the first edition of Ravaged Earth when we were still wet behind the ears.
Earlier this year, some folks thought we were done with Savage Worlds. The success of tremulus and my longterm sickness caused our schedule to be thrown off a bit, but the Blurry Ones have continued to diligently work on Savage materials, and I’d like to thank all of them before turning to what we have in the works and near future.
Ravaged Earth Second Edition: We listened to the fans closely, and brought the setting more into focus, with Eric Avedissian and Dave Olson doing a real bang up job. (I might’ve pitched in a bit as well.) Rather than Martians being a distant threat, they are front and center in the plot point campaign as they have aligned themselves with the Nazis in the hunt for the Martian Sun. Yes. Frenetic action and intrigue is to be had as you travel the globe in your quest for treasure and adventure. And saving the world! Preorders are still available!
Available: Gen Con Street Date: TBD
Karthador: An exciting new offering from our studio, in the capable hands of Darrell Hardy with a mechanical touch by yours truly. It is swashbuckling science fiction in a world of action and intrigue. We’ll be revealing more about it in the upcoming weeks ahead, and offering up preorder bundles as well. You’ll definitely want to keep your eyes open for this one.
Available: Gen Con Street Date: TBD
Agents of Oblivion: We’ll have more missions coming out shortly. Presently, I’m penning a manuscript with the working title of Black Dawn which intermingles a lot of the great stuff you want in your campaign (or at least I do)– alien menaces, supernatural threats, and real world danger all enmeshed in a web of conspiracy. If you haven’t snagged the book or any of the missions, now’s a great time to check it out.
Missions Available: Soon Black Dawn: TBD, hopefully this fall
Realms of Cthulhu: We have some great stuff simply awaiting layout. And we’ll quit talking about it, and start getting it out there! Echo of Dead Leaves, the long promised plot point campaign, needs a bit of fine tuning, and we’re evaluating how we’re going to develop the line moving forward, as the stock of Realms of Cthulhu rapidly dwindles. I have some exciting ideas which will have to remain hidden for the present, but adventures will be forthcoming in the not too distant future.
Iron Dynasty: Art of War is an exciting miniatures rules set based on Showdown. It’s undergone another editorial round, since it’s already been delayed so long, and we’re looking to have it out no later than this winter. We’re still considering bundling up all the Guidebooks into a proper print product, and I’d love to work on a Plot Point Campaign I’ve had sketched out since before the book was even released.
Available: TBD Street Date: Winter
Old School Fantasy: We put a lot of work into our fantasy line, yet what we heard more than anything is the demand for an actual rules book to accompany it. , After careful consideration, we’ve decided to move forward with it once more. Only this time, we want the community actively involved in it, so we’ll be developing it in a more open manner than some of our properties. If you’re a longtime fan of the Blur, we know we’ve released Betas in the past. This time, you’ll get to see them rougher and rawer, as we move through the iterative states.
Our plan and vision is to create a baseline fantasy rules set in the grand tradition of 1st Edition AD&D, and then open it up for folks to create (and publish) their own worlds with. This is an ambitious project, we know, and we have the illustrious Jeff Scifert serving as lead designer (with a few of us looking over his shoulder every know and then).
Available: TBD Street Date: TBD
This is just the stuff we’re prepared to talk about. We tend to keep a few of our cards close to our chest, out of habit as much as anything. As a smaller studio, we’re able to nimbly shift with market dictates, but we generally don’t. We work on stuff we’re passionate about, and we work on it until we’re ready to get it out the door to you. This can mean there are times that look like blank, empty spaces. They’re not. Remember, whether we’re noisy or quiet, we’re, like as not, off blurring reality in some way, shape, or fashion.
Until next time, I bid you, dear reader, adieu!

Great to hear.
I think RB Savage Worlds products are top notch.
I’m really looking forward to Ravaged Earth and a possible update to Runepunk.
Color me curious about Karthador, too
