Another Brick in the Wall
Today is Tuesday. The weather was strange. Events conspired to distract me. These are three simplistic sentences thrown together to summarize how things were for me. Work happened mainly in sputters and spurts and I’m writing this in the rambling remnants of early evening, already spent with little remaining creativity to dribble out in electronic fashion.
These things happen. It’s good to be back, and I imagine it’ll take a bit to resume my happy-go-lucky stride. Fear not. This (slightly) melancholy mood comes from inhabiting a dark mindset for an extended period of time, while the article of today’s title is courtesy of Pink Floyd (and one of their member did actually go stark, raving man). I heard the song after navigating the afternoon traffic (and traffic is something I do not miss one dot and I consider it a definite boon to work largely alone in the Mad Lab).
Since I’m dissecting the roots of creativity (and putting off stop gaps for another day or so–sorry) and the fringe where wants and need intersect, one can feel like a bricklayer. I’ve known more than a few bricklayers and the most skilled ones take pride in their work and enjoy the rhythm and the motion of their daily routine. Others are little more than caveman who have no other choice but to slap stones together and hope they stick. The end result is likely a house, but which one would you rather live in? I like to think that passion and commitment amount for something in the early days of this century as much as they did in the dwindling days of the last. I wonder, at times, if I shall become that curmudgeon who curses the HD games lacking soul and lament the purer, simpler times when we rolled our dice and used our shared imaginations to build entire new worlds one imaginary brick at a time.
Until next time, I bid you, dear reader, adieu!
P.S. Spread the word around I’m back in the saddle with daily bits of random wit regarding varying aspects of the design process and life in the trenches.
P.P.S. If there is something you’d like me to talk about, sound off in the comments below, and I’ll be happy to consider it.
